Evolution of Nintendo

Evolution of Nintendo

There are buttons all over in random places Are you referring to A, B, X, and Y? That’s the genius of the GC controller. The A and B buttons were different colors, different sizes, and on a different Y-Planes and X-Planes. The X and Y buttons were the same shape, but rotated at different angles. Seemingly random; but it gave each button a very unique distinction and intuitiveness. Compare that to the homogenized top, bottom, left, right placement of the Sony and MS controllers. (Press X? Okay which button is X, they are all identical.) The shoulder buttons were also the most satisfying thing to press ever. The joystiqs and d-pad could be improved though, yeah. In my opinion, some masterful hybrid of the GC Wavebird and the 360 controller would be the best. Hell, it would be very hard to deny the influence of the GC controller on the 360s design…

Alesund, Norway

Alesund, Norway

Good enough I guess, terrible weather in summer and can be a bit boring if you’re not into winter sports, hiking or going out on the sea. Does have fantastic opportunities for those kinds of things though. Mild winters and rainy summers, sort of like Scotland. I’ve lived in a few other cities (Trondheim, Copenhagen ++) and I’m not sure I would have considered moving back here if I didn’t have family and friends close by. Copenhagen was very fun and nice, but I missed the mountains :), Trondheim and Oslo were too cold in winter for me, but very nice. Ă…lesund is dominated by the maritime industry (shipping, off shore supply, ship building) and right now times are pretty good, so theres a lot of jobs and the city is growing (mostly by foreign workers). Moving to Norway can be quite difficult if you’re not a EU citizen.

Today is Saturday, my birthday, and I got all my work done yesterday

That’s awesome, since today’s my wife’s birthday as well, and I helped her get all of her work done last night so that she’d have a completely free day!

Question for Obamacare opposers

Question for Obamacare opposers

There are many aspects on which I (and others) object to what is called Obamacare. Covering them off briefly: Philosophical: 1. The bill as written remains unconstitutional. Yes I’m aware that the Supreme Court ruled it as valid (and that is indeed the end of the argument) but they did so by calling the funding mechanism a tax where the plain face language as well as congressional intent is opposite to this. Why do I care one way/another? I’m deeply uncomfortable with the government mandating the purchase of private products. Practical: 2. The bill solves the problem of who pays for medical care (by forcing those who don’t need it (the young) to buy coverage but does absolutely nothing to address the cost of that care. OP your cancer treatment will now be paid for with the aid of your fellow americans…and surely thats a good thing (for you), but consider — why is your cancer treatment so expensive? Why does it cost tens of thousands for a hospital stay? Obamacare can be viewed as a massive wealth transfer from the masses (heavily skewed towards taking the assets of the healthy young) and giving that wealth to the medical industry. There is ZERO challenge to the cost of providing you your care. In sum — because someone was charging you 1m for your treatment, the government saw fit to take that money from your neighbors to raise the payment. You can see the problem when next year they want 2m. 3. Due to the lack of price control incentive anywhere in the system, you are unlikely to get optimum care. By this I mean, everytime you see a new doctor/specialist for your cancer care they have a STRONG incentive to order a battery of tests which either a) have no impact on your treatment and thus waste your time/taking away resource care from someone else or b) possibly is detrimental to your care. I’m referring to being asked to take multiple MRI’s or CAT cans or being prescribed more expensive treatment options; not because these are better for YOU, but because the profit is greater for the specialist/hospital; either via limiting their liability or simply padding their pockets. I could go on re: the destabilizing effects of Obamacare but I think I’ve covered the major ones in a manner meaningful to you.

He likes feathers

He likes feathers

Your dog seems to have an appreciation for feathers. my dog goes batshitcraycray for small feathers. there was a factory in Greenpoint, Bklyn that always had unusually large amounts of feathers outside on the sidewalk and my dog would just get this crazy look in her eyes and spaz out hardcore. good times.

Happy 88th Birthday Edward Gorey

Happy 88th Birthday Edward Gorey

The Gashlycrumb Tinies is one of my favorites of all of EG’s works. My wife and I bought Amphigorey many years ago and still like to re-read it and show it to our kids. Neville is my favorite!

A mother’s patience.

A mother's patience.

I think it’s more like 25%…the orange colour is only carried on the X chromosome so it’s easier to get an orange male because they only have one, whereas a girl cat needs to get the orange gene on both of hers to turn out orange. Otherwise she’ll turn out calico or whatever. But statistically it’s not as rare as people make it out to be, although males are still much more common.

My attempt at the Harlem Shake.

That’s not the fad we’re talking about. The new one involves Baauer’s Harlem Shake and involves a guy dancing with a helmet leading into mini-mob dancing after the drop like this.

My favorite puppy went to her new home and I was worried how she was......got this the next morning. I think she's fine.

That’s why adopting an older dog is awesome. Puppies are cute and all, but they’re kind of overrated. They poop and pee everywhere, they don’t understand the rules, they so damn hyper, and you cannot let them out of your sight for a single minute or something will get destroyed. It’s exactly like adopting a toddler. Plus the cute and little stage only lasts a few months anyway. Then you get into the awful adolescent stage when they still have all the energy and destructive nature of a puppy, but now they’re big enough to do a lot more damage. This is mostly true for larger breeds. It’s that stage where they go from chewing up your socks to chewing up your couch (my current dog literally chewed a hole through the wall of my kitchen when he was about nine months old). Older dogs are more calm, often they’ve already had some obedience training, they’re house broken, they’re past the chewing stage, and their personalities are more developed so you have a better idea of what you’re getting. With puppies you don’t always know who is going to mellow out, who is going to stay hyper in adulthood, who is going to be a smart easy to train dog, and who… isn’t….
